Obituary for Mary Sibyl Mortensen

(Mary) Sibyl Mortensen born in August 11, 1929 to Joseph Lieshman and Mary Toone Brown in Grantsville, Utah and moved to Salt Lake City as a teenager. Later she attended the University of Utah for two years and served a mission in Kansas. She married Harris Mortensen June 27, 1952. She finished her education in elementary education at Utah St. Univ. while supporting her husband through 4 years of college and giving birth to three children. On July 5, 2010, our beloved Mother, sister, Grandmother and Great Grandmother and friend, Sibyl was called home to her Heavenly Father and into the arms of her loving husband who preceded her in death. Sibyl was loved by all who had the opportunity to know her. The gospel of Jesus Christ was always the center in her life and she tried to emulate the Savior in her service to others. She always looked for opportunities to bring a smile on the face of someone who needed a loving hand. Her positive attitude was contagious and everyone who knew her truly loved her warm and caring spirit. Family was of the utmost importance and she was “pleased” with the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
Survived by her 5 children, Marcia (Kim) Bales, Kurt (Laurette) Mortensen, Gena Jacob, MaryJo (Marc) Campbell and Harris Kay (Teri) Mortensen; Sister Gayle Buckwalter, Brother Verne Brown; 14 Grandchildren, 7 ½ Great grand children; preceded in death by her loving husband Harris Arbor Mortensen, son-in-law Steve Jacob, three brothers Jay, Kenneth and Gerald Brown and three sisters Amy Key, Pearl Peterson and Elisabeth Smith.
